Kazakhstan Expands Compute for Its AI Future

TL;DR

Kazakhstan's AI ecosystem is moving from infrastructure plans to deployment, according to an NVIDIA blog post. Firebird secured a US export license for 45,000 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs and is building its first phase with Kazakhtelecom at Data Center Valley, targeting a commercial launch in the third quarter of 2027 and up to about 500 megawatts later. Kazakhtelecom already runs 400 H200 and 480 B300 GPUs in Astana and Almaty and plans more than 1,000 Vera Rubin GPUs in Ekibastuz.

Nauti's Take

New data centers in Central Asia add competition for GPU capacity, an opportunity for providers and startups outside the big cloud regions. The risk lies in the timeline and the dependence on US export licenses, since commercial launch is only planned for 2027. Anyone seeking cheaper compute should watch these sites and check data protection and availability carefully.
