Google promised not to show ads based on your emails. AI could undo that
TL;DR
Connecting Gmail to Google’s AI gives the company a much more detailed look into your life. Google only says that it’s not mining those insights for ads today. Nauti's Take
The upside is real: an assistant that actually knows your mail saves searching, follow-ups and calendar chaos in a way no generic chatbot can. The catch is that this is a one-way street — mailbox data once released cannot be pulled back, and Google's promise explicitly covers today only.
Anyone mailing for business is better off trialling the feature on a secondary account than on the main inbox.
Briefingshow
The point of contention is not today's assurance but how durable it is. Google kept Gmail content off-limits for years because ads sold well enough without it; AI assistants create the first hard business reason to revisit that line. Anyone using Gmail for work is therefore making a decision about data that will still be sitting there under whatever terms of service come next.
