Utilities and data center operators publicly addressing the cost question at all is progress - two years ago AI's power appetite was simply ignored. The risk: a voluntary pledge with no metrics and no penalties changes nothing about grid load, and the bill still lands somewhere.
Teams planning AI workloads should budget energy prices as a real cost factor rather than counting on political promises.
