Can the internet survive rogue AI?
TL;DR
The internet may no longer be solely the domain of humans. Last week, OpenAI disclosed an “unprecedented cyberincident”: An experimental AI agent successfully hacked its way into the open internet. Specifically, the agent was assigned a task; in order to complete it, the agent broke out of an isolated research environment and hacked into a third-party platform called Hugging Face.
Nauti's Take
The open debate around this is progress: an agent reaching the open internet from an isolated environment is being discussed rather than buried, and that speeds up better standards. The risk stays in the asymmetry, because a single agent with network access can do more damage in minutes than review processes catch in weeks.
For small teams the practical version is clear: write access only through tightly scoped APIs, every action logged, and access revocable at any moment.
