Google will now tell you if an ad was made with AI

TL;DR

Google is adding a My Ad Center disclosure showing whether an ad was created or edited with AI. The label appears under the „how this ad was made“ section for ads on Search, Discover, and YouTube. Users can open the panel through the three-dot menu or info button on an ad. The same view also lets them block or report the ad. Google says ads made with its own generative AI advertising tools will be labeled automatically. Ads made with outside AI tools will need the disclosure added manually.

Nauti's Take

This is useful transparency, but not a breakthrough. Google can label ads reliably when they come through its own creation stack; beyond that, the system leans on the usual platform mix of rules, trust, and enforcement after the fact.

For users, the important question is not whether an ad used AI somewhere in production, but whether it misleads. That line needs tougher policing than a label alone can provide.

Briefingshow

AI is making ad production cheaper and faster, but it also makes synthetic visuals, message testing, and manipulation harder to spot. Google’s label puts some context directly into the user-facing ad controls. The weak point is enforcement outside Google’s own creation tools, where disclosure depends more on advertiser behavior.
