Google will now disclose which ads are made with AI
TL;DR
Google is adding a disclosure in My Ad Center that tells users whether an ad was created or edited with AI. The panel is reachable through the three-dot menu or info icon on ads across Google Search, YouTube, and Discover. Ads made with Google’s own generative ad tools will get the disclosure automatically. If the creative was produced elsewhere, advertisers must use a new control to say whether AI was involved.
Nauti's Take
This is useful, but it feels more like baseline hygiene than a tough platform rule. Automatic labels for Google’s own tools are the easy part.
The messy cases live in external workflows, agencies, and performance campaigns, where a self-report checkbox can become transparency theater. For users, the key question is not whether AI touched the ad, but whether the product shown actually exists as pictured.
Briefingshow
AI makes ad production cheaper and faster, especially in e-commerce, where products can be placed into synthetic scenes. The label gives users a clearer signal when an image is not a straightforward product photo. The real test is advertiser honesty, because Google is not independently verifying externally produced AI creatives.
