Shut Those Laptops! Anthropic Puts Its Claude Cowork Agent on Your Phone

TL;DR

Anthropic is bringing Claude Cowork to mobile and web on July 7, 2026. Until now, the agent was tied to the Claude desktop app for macOS and Windows. Cowork sessions now run in the cloud by default. Tasks can continue after a laptop is closed, and scheduled jobs can run even when no device is online. The full Cowork experience still lives on desktop, mainly because of local file access. On iOS, Android, and web, the focus is control, review, and approvals.

Nauti's Take

The direction is useful, but the story also has a polished agent-PR smell. A phone-controlled agent sounds magical until it grabs the wrong Slack thread, stale meeting notes, or permissions that are too broad.

For teams, the first test is not whether Cowork writes a neat summary. Check what sources it can access, who approves actions, and how mistakes surface before the agent turns them into real work.

Briefingshow

Anthropic is moving Cowork from a local agent window into a persistent work account controlled from a phone. That makes agents more practical for reports, emails, meeting prep, and recurring operations work. The hard part is control: once an agent keeps working without an open laptop, users need sharper rules for what it may read, write, and trigger.
