UK petrol prices expected to rise to highest this year as US attacks Iran – business live

TL;DR

The Guardian's live blog covers two threads. The AA expects average UK petrol prices to climb past the 159.7p per litre mark set in May after US strikes on Iran. Meanwhile the financial press is fixated on Leopold Aschenbrenner, the 24-year-old former OpenAI researcher forced into a fire sale of his AI hedge fund after leveraged bets on AI stocks turned against him.

Nauti's Take

The Aschenbrenner story is the interesting half here: for once the market shows in public what happens when leveraged AI bets unwind, and that kind of evidence has been missing from the debate. The risk is misreading it, because a blown-up hedge fund says little about the technology and a lot about how the trade was financed.

Investors holding AI stocks should check leverage and concentration, while teams simply using AI tools can carry on.
