The approach has real potential: explaining AI early instead of banning it meets children where they already use the tools. The limit is that nobody can cleanly measure which core skills actually erode under outsourcing, so parental advice rests on instinct.
For families the pragmatic route works best: allow AI for revision, keep it out of the first draft.
