For Anthropic, Karpathy is a statement hire — if anyone can speed up pre-training using Claude itself, it is him. The flip side is that the talent war keeps pushing pay packages into a range only a handful of labs can match, concentrating frontier know-how at very few vendors.
Builders should take Anthropic even more seriously on the technical side now, and hedge platform risk with multi-provider setups in parallel.
