According to Artificial Analysis, SpaceX's Grok 4.6 scores essentially level with OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol Max and just behind Anthropic's Fable 5 Max. Both labs pair better model performance with pricing that would have been hard to imagine a year ago. That puts new pressure on a hierarchy dominated by OpenAI and Anthropic.

Two more vendors at the frontier means more choice and downward pressure on prices, which is exactly what the report names: performance at prices hard to imagine a year ago. The catch is what it proves, since a benchmark tie does not automatically become performance in your own workflow.
Small teams should test Grok and Meta's model on their highest-value prompts, latency needs and data constraints.
