Microsoft’s Clippy-like Mico character is no longer the face of Copilot

Microsoft is removing the animated yellow avatar Mico from Copilot's voice mode. A support page says the character will move to Microsoft's Learn Live platform, where it has more content and interaction to react to. Mico launched last October to give Copilot a recognisable identity, with real-time facial expressions and animation. The avatar now joins Microsoft's long list of retired virtual helpers including Clippy, Cortana and Rover.

For teams integrating voice assistants into workflows, Mico’s move is a useful test case: A visible character can shape adoption, yet it remains part of the product surface and may disappear with the next strategy shift. Before rolling out such a tool, make sure voice access, APIs, and fallbacks work independently of the avatar so a UI change does not create process costs.
