Infuriating Google commercial imagines the founding fathers embracing AI

TL;DR

Google is promoting Workspace with an ad that imagines the US founding fathers drafting the Declaration of Independence with Gemini and Google Docs. Ben Franklin messages Thomas Jefferson about the draft, Jefferson photographs notes, AI transcribes them into a Doc, and Franklin plus Adams edit in suggestion mode. Gemini finds a meeting time, takes notes in Google Meet, and Nano Banana generates a US seal with a turkey instead of an eagle.

Nauti's Take

The ad is not annoying because AI in Docs is unrealistic. It is annoying because Google treats every form of collaboration as if it naturally wants to become a Workspace flow with Gemini layered on top.

Strong AI demos start with a real problem and show actual relief. This one uses history as set dressing and glues product features onto it.

That is not a vision of work, it is a pitch deck in a powdered wig.

Briefingshow

The ad shows how aggressively Big Tech is trying to normalize AI as a default layer inside office work. The problem is the chosen frame: Google does not use a harmless team workflow, but a political symbol with real historical weight. That makes the pitch feel less useful and more tone-deaf.
