Did the Pope use AI to write about the dangers of AI?
TL;DR
An analysis posted on LessWrong, run through the AI detector Pangram, suggests that parts of Pope Leo XIV's new encyclical may have been written with AI — even though the document warns about the risks of AI. Telltale signs include unusually frequent phrasings typical of models like Claude. A second pass found roughly 62 percent AI content in the first chapter. The Vatican has not yet commented.
