Anthropic’s Mythos mess is only getting worse

TL;DR

Anthropic has kept Mythos 5 and Fable 5 offline for two weeks after a June 12 export-control order from the Trump administration over security concerns. Despite heavy talks in Washington, there is still no clear path back. Anthropic says it has no news to share. The order blocks access for all foreign nationals, including non-US Anthropic employees. The shutdown hits Anthropic hard because Mythos was meant to bring premium revenue and strengthen its IPO narrative.

Nauti's Take

This is not a normal model delay, it is geopolitics landing inside the release calendar. Builders relying on frontier models need exit plans for access, teams, and regions.

When even internal employees get locked out, vendor lock-in stops being a product risk and becomes a state-level risk.

Briefingshow

This shows how messy AI regulation becomes when national security, export law, and commercial pressure collide. If the US government can abruptly freeze frontier models, the risk extends beyond Anthropic to OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft. For global customers, American AI starts to look less predictable.
