In a post on social media, Dario Amodei shared a link to an essay titled We Must Pace the Frontier in which he lays out how Anthropic would provide “third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training”.

A lab handing outside evaluators permanent, employee level access to its systems would be real transparency, and that is an opportunity the whole industry could copy. The risk sits in the unilateral part: if OpenAI, Google and the Chinese labs stay out, Anthropic slows itself down while the overall pace stays the same.
For users this changes little today, for regulators it is a workable blueprint.
