Amazon Bedrock expands Claude model availability to in-country inferencing in India

Anthropic's Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Haiku 4.5 are now available in India through Amazon Bedrock geographic cross-Region inference. Requests route only between the Mumbai (ap-south-1) and Hyderabad (ap-south-2) Regions, so customer data stays within India, and Bedrock applies zero data retention by default. Billing, quotas and logs remain tied to the source Region. Developers can get started from the Amazon Bedrock console or with the Messages, InvokeModel and Converse APIs.

For Indian companies with strict data residency rules this is real progress: Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 4.5 now run without data leaving the country. The catch is capacity, since only two Regions share the load and quotas stay tied to the source Region, so peak demand could get tight.
Regulated workloads in India benefit immediately; for Europe it mainly signals that AWS is rolling out sovereignty setups Region by Region.
